Verdict: Four stars.

90s stars Garbage put their Scottish roots at the heart of their TRNSMT set today.

The supergroup kicked off their performance with bagpipers and drummers playing Flower of Scotland, before lead singer Shirley Manson strutted on stage in a tartan dress.

The Scottish-American band launched into their tune Crush, which immediately showcased Shirley's as-strong-as-ever vocals, packing an immediate punch into the Glasgow Green crowd.

As the group went on to play tunes like GodHead and Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) , they proved they hadn't even remotely lost their ability to wow musically - and Shirley hadn't lost that feminist rage that first threw her into the spotlight.

After the first few tunes, Shirley told the crowd: "It's been a long time since we've been home, it's good to be here."

She added: "You all look so young to me, so I don't know if you know who the f*** we are, but we emerged in the 90s and it's amazing to be here after all that time. This is an amazing scene and we're very grateful to be a part of it."

The band took the main stage ahead of headliner Liam Gallagher's set.

Speaking on the former Oasis star, Shirley said: "We are very excited to get you warmed up before the wonderful Liam Gallagher. We are huge fans of Liam and huge fans of Oasis too."

Despite her edgy look and character, the star wasn't shy in showing her funny side. Having spotted her 'Glasgow bestie' in the crowd, she said: "Out of all the people here I can't believe I can f***ing see you."

The band went on to sing their big hit Stupid Girl, before Shirley went into the crowd to sing When I Grow Up.

After playing Only Happy When It Rains, and finishing off their set, Shirley told the crowd: "Glasgow it's been real, thank you - you're all we f***ing care about."

But after 60 minutes of pure angst and energy, the pleasure was all ours.
