Glasgow pub The Lab announced today that it will close this weekend after almost 25 years in business.

It's another blow to the city's hospitality scene, and the Glasgow Times has reported on numerous closures of restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes in recent months. 

Some have been city institutions, others have been trading for mere months.

Here are 14 restaurants that have closed in and around Glasgow in the last few weeks.

Glasgow restaurant loved by Celtic and Rangers stars

Zinfandel, based in the Southside, was renowned for its fusion of Scottish-Croatian food and was visited by the likes of former Rangers stars Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic, and Celtic's Liel Abada, Josip Juranovic and Matt O’Riley.

Croatian brothers Marko and Mate Curic opened Zinfandel in Strathbungo at the start of 2020 and announced in April that they had made the 'hard decision' of closing permanently. 

City centre kebab spot closes after seven years

 

Four days before its final day of trading, Doner Haus Glasgow on West Nile Street took to social media to reveal it will be "officially closing" its doors.

The restaurant operated in the city centre for seven 'wonderful' years before its closure in April.

Italian spot Doppio Malto, located at number 7 George Square, shut suddenly on July 2.

The Italian chain opened its first UK restaurant in the 8000 square feet space after Jamie's Italian, led by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, closed in 2019.

Regular customers shared their shock and sadness at the news.

One wrote: "What a shame, great place. Had many good nights both working and eating/drinking here."

Another said: "Aww I wasn’t expecting this, thank you for all the good times!"

Four restaurants around Glasgow closed by hospitality giant

 

Brewers Fayre confirmed the closure of its Beefeater restaurants in Stepps, Belshill, Paisley and Dumbarton on July 4.

The venues are owned by hospitality business Whitbread which also owns the Premier Inn and various branded restaurants including Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, and Bar+Block.

A Whitbread spokesperson said: “After many years serving the community we can confirm that the Buchanan Gate, Malt and Myre, Belziehill Farm, and Phoenix Park have closed their doors.

“We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the years and our amazing team members."

Punters cry 'another hits the dust' as Cumbernauld spot shuts

 

Cumbernauld eatery Houston's Bar and Grill made the sad announcement that it will be serving locals for the final time on Sunday, July 21.

They said it was 'time to say goodbye' and encouraged diners to pop in one last time between now and then.

Independent Southside cafe closes after less than a year

 

If I Should Die Tonight was a queer-owned coffee shop and loose-leaf tea spot in the city's Govanhill.

The owner made the sad announcement that they would be closing the Allison Street cafe last week.

They said they had to 'focus on some other things' and said they'd 'loved' having the shop, which first opened in November 2023.

End of the road for 'loved' Italian spot in Paisley

 

La Banca Italian Restaurant on Neilston Road to announce the gutting news of its closure on Sunday, July 14.

The eatery - which first opened in the town in 2018 - is known for serving up all the 'classic Italian dishes'.

They said the decision was made with a 'heavy heart' and 'great sadness'. 

Local restaurant closes after more than 20 years in business

 

Zucca Bistro Pizzeria in East Kilbride took to social media to reveal the sad news on Monday, July 8.

In the post, the eatery said it was with 'deep sadness and a heavy heart' that they were announcing its immediate closure from today.

The food joint has served the community for more than two decades.

Iconic cafe that went viral closing with 'extremely heavy heart'

 

Bacchialdi's told punters "it has been a blast" as they confirmed they were shutting down as the owners struggle with “the emotional and physical efforts needed to keep up the incredible standards.”

A Glasgow cafe located within an historic hub sadly closed last week amid serious pressures to keep their services going.

The Nolly Cafe, located within the Maryhill Burgh Halls, has shut down for the 'foreseeable future'.

Staff have revealed the last day of trading was Saturday, July 13 and they cited the 'current financial climate' as the reason for not being able to continue.
