A MAN attacked his cousin leaving him with two black eyes after an argument broke out between the pair on New Year's Eve.

Aaran Pentland had been returning from hospital where he had been visiting his partner and their newborn child on December 31, 2022.

The 27-year-old entered Partick railway station with his cousin at around 7.55pm and walked towards the waiting room on platform two.

The pair then made their way to the corner of the waiting room and could be seen taking alcohol from a bag.

At around 8pm Pentland and his cousin began to argue.

The man picked up the bag and started to walk away towards the platform. As he did so Pentland began to jostle with him.

He then attempted to punch Pentland to the face but the punch did not land and in doing so he dropped the bag and items fell out.

Pentland took the bag, which contained a glass bottle, and struck his cousin on the head with it twice.

The incident was captured on CCTV which showed Pentland drawing blood from the man.

A struggle took place for a further three minutes and was finished at around 8.07pm when Pentland’s cousin made his way to the street.

Pentland stayed in the waiting area.

Police were contacted and attended. Officers saw blood on the ground and smashed glass in the waiting area.

Pentland was traced, searched, placed under arrest, and taken into custody.

As a result of the struggle the cousin suffered two black eyes and two partially broken teeth.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. None of his injuries required follow-up care.

Pentland, of Clydebank, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court recently after pleading guilty to two charges.

The first was behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by pursuing a man, seizing a bag in his possession, and struggling with him.

The second was assaulting a man by repeatedly striking him on the head with a bag containing a glass bottle to his injury.

Both offences were committed whilst Pentland was on bail.

Pentland’s lawyer told the court that her client struck his cousin after he threw punches at him.

The defence solicitor said: “When Mr Pentland struck his cousin that was after his cousin threw three punches to his face.

“He seems to have turned things around for himself with no offending since 2022.”

Sheriff Mary Shields put Pentland on a community payback order with the requirement to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.
