An Open Championship winner visited Elderslie yesterday for a round of golf, shortly after competing in the recent tournament at Royal Troon.
Todd Hamilton - winner of the 2004 Open Championship, also at Royal Troon - appeared at the famous Ayrshire Troon course last week to take part in the 2024 edition of golf’s oldest tournament.
Despite the sentimental return to the scene of his greatest triumph, Hamilton was unable to make the cut this year.
His early departure from Royal Troon seemingly left the 59 year old American pro with an appetite for more, as he headed down to Elderslie Golf Club for a round with his son.
“I had a good chat with Todd,” said Elderslie’s resident professional Scott McGrenaghan.
“I told him I recalled watching him win the 2004 Open with his trademark ‘hybrid shot’ around the greens.
“He liked that I could remember that, and was more than happy to get a photo. He was also impressed by the number of kids we had down playing the course which is something we take a lot of pride in at Elderslie golf club.”
