Bishopton residents are being encouraged to share their views on the introduction of artwork at two roundabouts in the village.
Different options have been put forward for Barrangary and Chestnut roundabouts as part of Renfrewshire Council’s ‘You Decide’ campaign – a community empowerment initiative.
It is hoped the planned improvements will create a sense of place and an attractive entrance and exit to the village for both residents and visitors alike.
The options for Barrangary are either the installation of a sculpture that draws inspiration from the abundance of local wildlife – which includes a silhouette of a tree featuring various birds and a swan and fox at its base – or a feature carrying the name of the village itself.
Meanwhile, the choices for Chestnut are a steel sculpture of a horse – representing a nod to the close proximity of the Ingliston Equestrian Centre – or the use of line art to depict the outline of the historic building of Bishopton House.
A statement from the local authority said: “Our recent #YouDecide campaign saw local people put forward ideas for how to improve their area and improvements to the appearance of roundabouts in Bishopton was voted for by local people as something they’d like to see.
“We want the local community to be involved in every stage of the process so we’re looking for your views on installing artwork on Barrangary and Chestnut roundabouts to create a sense of place and an attractive entrance and exit to the village for residents and visitors.”
The council said the images are provided as examples only and the final roundabout designs and materials that are chosen will be subject to practicality and funds.
It wants to know which design concept the community would prefer to see to enhance the roundabouts and has asked residents to respond to a survey by Sunday, August 4.
