A TikTok comedy sketch calling on Silverburn Shopping Centre to introduce a Primark has gone viral.

There have been massive calls for the popular fashion retailer to open up there for some time with shoppers voicing dismay online that this is yet to happen.

Captioned “Silverburn get a grip and give us a Primark”, the 51-second video by @ambersherreerosie has been viewed more than 150,000 times on the social media platform.

Ahead of a new store opening at the Glasgow Fort and in the wake of the video’s viral success, we asked Silverburn and Primark about the possibility of the retailer coming to Pollok.

A spokesperson for Silverburn, said: “While we can’t comment on Primark’s plans, we of course always welcome and listen to the views of our guests.

“Meanwhile, we are excited to have recently welcomed Mango and All Saints.

“We have also recently agreed with Jack& Jones, Seasalt and local Glaswegian brand Forty to open a store in Silverburn.

“We are very excited that Zara has agreed to expand its presence into a flagship store, and we look forward to introducing more great new brands to Silverburn in the coming months.”

A Primark spokesperson added: “We love to hear that people would like to have a Primark store near them.

“As a growing business, we're always looking for new opportunities for store locations, however we can't comment on speculation about where we might open next.”

The tongue in cheek video makes light of the continual disappointment felt by many as it imagines a gathering of management at the Pollok retail hub.

Titled “POV: the meeting to decide which shops would be in Silverburn”, it kicks off with the video’s creator stating “okay guys I’ve told you to bring some ideas for Silverburn shops”.

Ideas for shops other than Primark are then put forward and welcomed, while the suggestion of the fashion giant is continually rejected.

As well as tens of thousands of views, the video has also attracted more than 200 comments with one TikTok user describing it as “nuts” that the shopping centre is not home to a Primark.

Another said that the day Primark comes to Silverburn will be “the best day of their life,” while a further commenter stated that the retail hub needs both a Primark and a Poundland.

It was also suggested in the comments that “the old Debenhams would make an amazing Primark.”

Showing the strength of feeling, another said: “We demand a Primark or if they want to be so high class then a Selfridges.”

Primark currently has four stores in the Glasgow area, with a fifth one due to open at Glasgow Fort in early 2025.

The Primark stores currently in the Glasgow area are located in Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow Centre, and at the Parkhead Forge shopping centre and Braehead Shopping Centre.
