A MANHUNT is underway after a man with a "bladed weapon" entered a shop in Airdrie and demanded money. 

The incident happened at around 4.55pm on Thursday, August 8 at a premises on Petersburn Road. 

The suspect made off with a three-figure sum of cash and headed in the direction of Varnsdorf Way.

Police said no one was injured. 

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses of the robbery or anyone who has any information to come forward. 

Detective Constable David Williamson said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who has information that could help with our investigation.

"We are asking the public to check private CCTV and to get in touch if there is anything that could assist.

"If you were driving in the area please check dash-cam and contact us if there is anything helpful."

The suspect is described as white with medium build and he was wearing a dark top with a hood and dark bottoms.
