999 crews were called to a housing estate after an alleged incident with a weapon.
A police presence was seen near Ryefield Avenue in Johnstone on Sunday afternoon, including officers and a helicopter.
Reports on social media claimed that they had seen police in the area, with one saying they stopped outside their house.
Another wrote: "Just came in from work, police still there."
A third said: "Serious stuff."
The force confirmed that a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with allegedly carrying an offensive weapon and acting in a threatening manner.
The incident is alleged to have occurred at around 4.50pm.
There were no injuries and the man is expected to appear in court on Monday, August 12.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with carrying an offensive weapon and acting in a threatening manner around 4.50pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in Ryefield Avenue, Johnstone.
"No-one was injured.
“The man is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, August 12, 2024."
