YOU do not have to be big to make a big difference…

It’s small but mighty heroes like Kallum McSween and Jack Smith who fly the flag for the city’s hard-working and selfless young people.

The two boys, from Ruchill in North Glasgow, volunteer as part of North United Communities and last year, aged just 10 and 13, they picked up the prestigious Lord Provost’s Special Recognition prize at the Glasgow Community Champion Awards.

The event, organised by the Glasgow Times and supported by Glasgow City Council and Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust, hails the unsung heroes improving lives around the city.

This year, we have introduced a Little Champion prize especially for children under the age of 13 who go the extra mile to help others.

Despite their own health challenges, Jack and Kallum regularly volunteer for NUC, and last Christmas helped the team hand out warm packs, with towels, torches, hand warmers and blankets, to people in the city centre.

Entries are now open for the 2024 Glasgow Community Champion Awards, organised by the Glasgow Times and supported by our generous partners, Glasgow City Council and Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust.

Who do you know who deserves recognition for the work they do for their community?

Closing date for nominations is Thursday, September 12.
