Twenty-four new council homes have been completed in Coatbridge.

Tenants are now moving into the new-build homes, built through a partnership between North Lanarkshire Council and Allanwater Homes.

The housing project was part of the council’s 'Development Pathfinder' scheme, resulting in 24 homes being built at Lorne Place as part of a wider objective to provide 5,000 new homes by 2035.

The housing mix includes 12 two-bedroom flats, six two-bedroom terrace houses, and six three-bedroom terraced houses.

Homes are designed with features such as different coloured doors and clearly visible entrances, to aid visibility and navigation.

The houses comply with energy efficiency standards, and have electrical switches and sockets at accessible locations.

Councillor Michael McPake, Housing convener, acknowledged the completion of this housing project by presenting flowers to a new tenant, Stephanie, accompanied by her daughter, Arianna.

Councillor McPake said: "Working with housing developers and buying new 'off the shelf' properties is just one of the ways we provide modern, affordable homes for our tenants.

"From the outset, we discuss the specification of our new homes ensuring they are built to include our accessibility and sustainability standards.

"This approach is in addition to our traditional design and build method and supplements our ambitious plans to build over 5,000 new homes.

"This project is an excellent example of how we’re successfully working with developers to deliver high-quality homes for our tenants while boosting the local economy and transforming communities."

The overall project cost was £4.43 million, financially supported by a £2.364 million grant from the Scottish government.
