A Glasgow housing association has launched an initiative to help their tenants get online.
Thenue Housing, which manages 3,000 homes predominantly in the East End and Castlemilk areas, recently kickstarted a scheme titled Connecting with Thenue.
It offers free guidance to tenants who need assistance navigating the internet.
Newly-appointed staff member Jason Ross is actively assisting tenants in their various digital needs, including online shopping, banking, job hunting and general internet usage.
Jason said: "Connecting with online services using your mobile device or computer can be very convenient for some, but what about those who either don’t have the resources or do but just don’t know where to begin?
"We’re here to make that process easy to understand and useful via informal group sessions, one-to-one digital opportunities for people who have a mobile phone, tablet or laptop and who need a helping hand or are eager to understand modern technology but feel left behind."
Thenue is focused on improving the digital abilities of its tenants, aiming to enhance employment opportunities, tackle isolation, and simplify life for thousands.
The housing association has dedicated many staff hours, secured ample funding and committed its own financial resources to promote digital inclusion.
The Connecting with Thenue initiative is enabled by funding from the Scottish government’s 'Connecting Scotland' project, managed by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, and Thenue also contributed £3,000.
The project will run until February 2025, when efforts will be renewed to secure ongoing funding.
Connecting Scotland seeks to provide organisations and individuals with enhanced access to devices, connectivity, and skills training.
Jason has already begun partnering with Thenue’s Area Associations, residential groups affiliated with the housing association in areas like Castlemilk, Cranhill, Bridgeton and Dalmarnock, to provide this service.
Gary Naylor, chief executive of Thenue said: "We are pleased to be playing our part in the Connecting Scotland initiative.
"It is an inescapable aspect of modern life that engaging digitally is increasingly important and Thenue has a strong track record in helping our tenants embrace this over the last few years and aid in them accessing services in this way.
"However, we also understand that as a housing association, we must ensure that access to face-to-face contact with our customers remains an unshakeable commitment, now and into the future."
