A graduate apprentice based at ScottishPower's Glasgow HQ recently visited 10 Downing Street.
Aimee Dickson, from Hamilton, had a rare glimpse inside the Prime Minister's official residence as part of a visit to celebrate the first few weeks of the newly elected UK Government.
She was part of a trio of apprentices from ScottishPower invited to attend Number 10 with a select group starting out on STEM careers in the energy sector.
Having started her apprenticeship in 2021, Aimee will graduate from Strathclyde University next year with a degree in Business Management.
She is currently working for SP Energy Networks, the distribution arm of ScottishPower.
At the company's flagship HQ in Glasgow, she is part of the Workforce Renewal Team, managing 28 Year in Industry students across the network's business.
She is also an active member of the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board Apprentice Engagement Group.
Speaking after the visit, she said: "I am grateful for the incredible opportunity to visit 10 Downing Street and listen to Sir Keir Starmer's insightful speech on 'Fixing the Foundations' from the beautiful rose garden.
"His vision for a stronger and more resilient future truly resonated with me.
"I was especially pleased to hear his emphasis on supporting apprentices, something I am extremely passionate about.
"Following the speech, I had the pleasure of networking with professionals from various industries.
"The exchange of ideas and perspectives was both enlightening and motivating.
"It was surreal to stand in a room where so many politicians and world leaders have been.
"I am grateful for the chance to connect with such a diverse and talented group of individuals, all with the shared goal of contributing to building a better future together."
Nicola Connolly, SP Energy Networks CEO, added: "What a fantastic honour for Aimee and our business to be represented at Number 10 Downing Street just weeks into the start of a new government and I’m really delighted to see the real value of apprenticeships recognised too.
"At SP Energy Networks, we know that apprentices are the future of our organisation, and we are passionate about encouraging more young people, and particularly more women, into STEM careers."
