The 'world famous' Glasgow restaurant with a special connection to Rangers - and Celtic.

There’s no denying that in a city like Glasgow which is bursting at the seams with places to eat, the ones that truly stand the test of time rely on a perfect recipe of mouthwatering food, electric atmosphere and relentless hard work.

An Indian restaurant dotted just off the city’s Charing Cross has prioritised all three to keep the name Mister Singh’s going for over 20 years.

Mister Singh’s India is the result of four generations of the Singh family working tirelessly to create delicious authentic Indian cuisine with some local inspiration to keep the customers coming back – most notably their beloved haggis pakora.

The fact that Mister Singh’s is preceded by the slogan ‘world famous’ is no coincidence.

It is popular with not only hungry Glaswegians but VIP clientele including movie stars.

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson headed there for a meal after arriving in the city for a special event, An Evening with Mel Gibson, in May 2022.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom paid a visit to the eatery years ago, and the team shared the old photo recently as one of their 'highlights'.

But perhaps their most frequent visitors are the footballing stars of our own city.

Players past and present of Rangers FC have been spotted at Mister Singh’s over the years, which is no surprise given that Satty is such a fan of the club.

Photographs of Ibrox heroes who have popped by adorn the walls, the restaurant catered a matchday at the stadium’s hospitality hub Club Cooper, and Satty even named his sons after Mark Walters and Oleg Kuznetsov in the 1990s.

When Walters popped in for food one day, he was all too happy to pose for a photo with a grown-up Mark Walters Singh.

Mister Singh’s proved to be the perfect setting for a Boys' Brigade reunion for Ibrox legend Ally McCoist.

Super Ally said he and 4th East Kilbride's ‘finest(ish)’ had a ‘superb’ meal, and he counts Satty as a personal friend.

Gers hero Michael Mols paid a special visit while he was on the mend following an emergency operation on a tumour.

And a few years back, one lucky Rangers fan spotted the entire squad dining there at Mister Singh’s.

Craig Hale visited and bumped into his footballing heroes while enjoying a meal.

He shared pictures of players including Andy Halliday and Alfredo Morelos and said: "When you come into Mister Singhs for a top-of-the-notch meal and you see the Rangers FC team sitting - then you realise Carlsberg really do Saturdays.”

Despite Satty’s die-hard devotion to Rangers, well-known names associated with Celtic have also made appearances at the restaurant for a meal.

Martin O’Neill and Frank McAvennie have dined there, and Satty previously revealed that any Celtic fan choosing to come for a curry can pose with a replica of the 1967 European Cup that they have.

But you could argue it was one Gers-themed gift that made the biggest impression on the restaurateur.

While he was an assistant to Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale became acquainted with Satty.

After following Gerrard to Premier League side Aston Villa in November 2021, he returned to Glasgow for Christmas the following month where he presented the chef with a very special present.

Satty said: "Michael comes in, gives me a wee bottle of champagne, put his hand in his pocket and pulls out his 55 winners' medal and gave me it as a Christmas present."

He said the interaction had him 'in tears', adding: "I said, 'Michael the last time I cried on Christmas Eve was 40 years ago when my mum said Santa Claus isn't coming if you don't clean your room.'
