A woman avoided being struck by a car after a driver became ‘confused’ and drove on the central reservation of a road.
Mamoon Rashid, 38, of Crookston, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court recently after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.
The charge states that Rashid drove closely and aggressively towards a van on Barrhead Road on May 31, 2023.
He then attempted to overtake the van and drove onto a grass verge before re-entering the dual carriageway too close to a car and colliding with the car, causing damage.
The charge goes on to add that Rashid drove directly into the path of a pedestrian – Alison Aitken – causing her to take evasive action to avoid being struck.

The court had previously heard the circumstances of the case but it was continued for reports.
Rashid’s lawyer told Sheriff Allan McKay that these were now available and “offered an explanation” for the incident.
The defence solicitor said: “It should have been a relatively short and straightforward drive. There appeared to have been road works on Barrhead Road.
“It’s normally a dual carriageway and he was driving in the right-hand lane. The road works in the left-hand lane were forcing vehicles into the right-hand lane at that stage.
“He appears to have become confused leading him to drive in the central reservation where Alison Aitken was walking.”

Sheriff Allan McKay replied: “He should’ve just stopped so he could get back onto the road. No one was injured but there’s no doubt it was dangerous.”
Addressing Rashid directly, Sheriff McKay added: “One hopes that this is five minutes in your life you will come to regret.
“You made a handful of decisions that were poor and you’re about to pay the price for those decisions.”
Sheriff McKay disqualified Rashid from driving for 14 months.
He was also ordered to pay a £940 fine.
