The reason why an East Kilbride recycling centre suddenly closed over an 'incident' has been revealed.
Potentially dangerous items were irresponsibly dumped forcing South Lanarkshire Council to lock down the scene.
East Kilbride Household Waste & Recycling Centre at Peel Park Industrial Estate has now re-opened since this morning while investigations took place.

Kevin Carr, Head of Facilities, Waste and Grounds Services at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “The East Kilbride Recycling Centre was closed earlier today to safeguard visitors from potentially hazardous items that had been irresponsibly disposed of by a member of the public.
“Anyone looking to book a slot was redirected to the Blantyre and Rutherglen sites, where existing East Kilbride bookings were also being honoured.
“The centre was made safe, and it was able to be re-opened later in the afternoon.
“We would ask users of all site to ensure – as most of them in fact do – that they adhere to the rules regarding what can and cannot be recycled there because, as we have seen in this case, disregarding the rules can place the public and employees in great danger.”
