A sports club in Pollokshaws received a share of £7,500 from Aldi Scotland to buy new equipment.

A total of nine clubs across Glasgow and the West received a share of the money as part of the annual Scottish Sport Fund initiative that supports community sports clubs to promote a healthier Scotland.

The fund invites applications throughout the year, offering up to £2,500 to local teams.

Flair Gymnastics, based in Pollokshaws, was awarded £2,500 and is looking to improve its provision of gymnastics for boys.

They plan to use the funds to buy new equipment, including parallel bars and pommel horses.

William Smith, director of coaching at Flair Gymnastics, said: "We are so delighted to have been awarded funding from Aldi’s Scottish Sport Fund.

"We'll put it to immediate use by ordering brand-new equipment to provide even more fantastic opportunities for young people to get into gymnastics."

Other beneficiaries include Oban Otters and Greenock & District Scouts, who each received £1,000.

Phoenix Girls Football, Morton in the Community, Glasgow Outdoor Volleyball Club, Glasgow Eagles Basketball, Feel Good Women’s Group, and Bearsden Snowsports were each granted £500.

Since its launch in 2016, the Scottish Sport Fund has benefited nearly 600 clubs across Scotland, providing more than £400,000 in total.

Graham Nicolson, regional managing director for Aldi Scotland, said: "Since 2016, Aldi’s Scottish Sport Fund has given a wide range of sports clubs the chance to benefit from essential funding to help them invest in much-needed equipment and resources.

“It’s humbling to see how much of a difference extra funding can make to clubs like Flair Gymnastics and in supporting people across Scotland to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.”
