A man threw a sign at a shop window before threatening to blow up a police officer’s house.

Jamie Higgins, 26, of Springburn, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court recently after pleading guilty to four charges.

These included two charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, wilfully or recklessly destroying/damaging property, and assaulting a police officer.

The court heard that a woman, who was known to Higgins, and her two sons had been in their home on Wallacewell Street in the north of the city at around 12.05pm on August 1, 2023.

At this time the woman’s youngest son heard shouting from outside on the street. The woman looked out of the window and saw Higgins shouting and making threats.

He stated, “I’ll smash your living room window. I’ll smash you, you specky, blonde, fat cow”.

Higgins continued acting this way for a short time and the woman contacted police.

At around 12.15pm Higgins went to the Co-op store on Wallacewell Street.

Staff saw Higgins outside and he appeared to be drunk.

Higgins wanted to get into the shop but was refused entry.

He began to shoulder barge the window of the shop and then threw a sign at the window which caused the glass to smash. The value of the damage is not known, the court heard.

Officers responded to the incident at 12.25pm and saw Higgins outside the store where he was immediately put in handcuffs.

During the process of being arrested, Higgins kicked an officer on the leg.

He was put in a cell van and whilst being taken to London Road police station he acted in an abusive manner shouting at officers “you p***y b*****d” and “you black b*****d”.

He continued “I’m going to find out where you live and blow up your house” and “I’m going to take your eye out of its socket”.

Before arriving at the police station, his shouting on one occasion caused saliva to land in the mouth of a female police officer.

Once there, a spit hood was applied. Higgins was shouting “m****s, s*****s, and r*****s”.

The procurator fiscal depute explained that this was a brief summary of what cops had to endure.

Higgins was not cautioned and charged due to his demeanour. He was held in custody.

His lawyer told the court that his client was a first-time offender and had not offended since this incident.

Addressing Higgins, Sheriff Mark McGuire said: “Put a foot out of line and you will go to prison."

Sheriff McGuire placed Higgins on a community payback order with 150 hours of unpaid work.
