A man has died after falling from a balcony at a Glasgow art gallery.

The 55-year-old fell at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, September 11.

We reported that emergency services including police and an ambulance, a paramedic response unit, and a trauma team were blue-lighted to the scene.

The force has now confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Cops were investigating the incident, but they do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.

A report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal. 

A spokesperson said: "Around 12.30pm on Wednesday, 11 September, we received a report a man had fallen from height inside an art gallery on Royal Exchange Square.

"Emergency services attended but the 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

 

We previously reported that the GoMA closed on Wednesday following the incident, but it reopened on Thursday at 11am.

A spokesperson said: "The Gallery of Modern Art was closed early yesterday (Wednesday, September 11) after a member of the public fell from a balcony.

"Emergency services attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and we will continue to offer assistance in any way we can.

"The Gallery of Modern Art will reopen at the later time of 11am today, Thursday, September 12.
