A primary school pupil has been crowned a regional winner in a carbon monoxide safety competition.

Ewan Duncan, eight, from Tannochside Primary School in Uddingston, was recognised for his creative initiatives to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

His effort was part of the annual SGN Carbon Monoxide Safety Competition, held during Gas Safety Week 2024.

Ewan stood out with his informative PowerPoint presentation, inspired by a safety workshop at his school by Bonanza Creative in collaboration with SGN.

He said: "I am good at making presentations, so I decided to make one on CO awareness, using the information that was shared by the Bonanza safety people who came to our school.

"I hope that my presentation encourages people to get a CO alarm."

Headteacher Clare Ferrie praised Ewan's achievement and the educational session that sparked his interest.

She said: "Our pupils wanted to conduct their own research on the topic of CO after the session as they were keen to find out more about it.

"Ewan decided to use his PowerPoint skills to make his very own presentation, and presented it to the whole school at assembly, which was enjoyed by staff and pupils."

Ewan has won cash prizes for himself and his school.

Dan Edwards, SGN’s social impact project lead, said: "Ewan's project clearly demonstrated his understanding of the risks associated with carbon monoxide and the importance of preventative measures.

"We congratulate him and all the students who participated for their efforts in helping to spread such an important message."
