Verdict: Five stars.

Glasgow fans left Chappell Roan emotional as she admitted “I've never had a chant like that before”.

The 26-year-old superstar performed last night at the O2 Academy in what can only be described as a once in a lifetime experience.

The sold out show was arguably one of the most exclusive gigs the city has hosted in recent years, as crowds stood on the street outside begging for spare tickets.

It comes after the American singer skyrocketed to fame this summer after already announcing her UK and European tour, with tickets costing just £21.

We previously reported how some touts were selling tickets for £2,000 and the Hydro had to put out an announcement that she would not be upgrading to a bigger venue after being bombarded with requests.

It meant the gig only had room for a few lucky super fans who had each turned down 20x the face value of their ticket while walking into the venue past people holding up signs desperate to buy last minute access.

Many had also made the effort to dress up as a Midwest Princess, which was the dress theme allocated by Chappell on social media.

Sea’s of camo print and pink princess attire quickly filled in and packed the room with electric energy, as everyone knew they were about to be part of something very special.

It felt like we were getting to see Britney Spears in 1999, Lady Gaga in 2005, or Nirvana in 1987 - it was clear we were about to witness a legendary star debut and never in a small venue like this again.

As soon as Chappell skipped on stage in a camo ball gown the room physically shook as fans jumped into the air and exploded with cheers and screams, as many also burst into tears as she kicked off the show with Femininomenon.

After finishing the song one fan shouted “CHAPPELL, CHAPPELL, CHAPPELL F****** ROAN” to which the entire audience immediately joined in.

A brief moment of fear and panic came across Chappell’s face as she tried to understand what the crowd was saying, before she became overwhelmed and fought back tears when she realised.

She said: “I have never had a chant like that before. We are going to play the Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess.”

She then launched into performing her album, which came out last year, with stand out hits being Good Luck Babe, HOT TO GO!, Picture You, and her encore song Pink Pony Club.

Her magnetic talent was even more astonishing in person as she performed immaculate vocals while dancing and carrying out outfit changes.

Speaking to the crowds she said that Scottish weather was her “favourite” type and she was enjoying her stay, even taking time to visit Highland Cows.READ MORE: Disabled man desperate for transplant to end daily agony

She said: “This is such a fun crowd. I have had so much fun here too, I saw Highland cows.

“I was like oh this is my sister. They are so cute. It’s so cute here. This is my favourite type of weather, I like this weather.

“I am so grateful that you all showed up and are so enthusiastic.

“What day is it? Is it Sunday? It is the Lord's day, it is the Sabbath.

“This is a very spiritual experience for me, regardless of what you believe. This is just so cleansing to my soul to be in a room full of people I can relate to.

“I really needed an outlet like this when I was 15 so badly. I just needed to be around people weren't going to make fun of me, and I feel like you aren’t going to make fun of me

“This is the room where you can bring whoever you want to bring, kiss whoever you want to kiss, and dress however you want to dress.

“It is all welcome here and I want to welcome you into this space, and you are absolutely wanted and absolutely cherished, so much.

“Thank you for being here and celebrating your queer artists and trans artists. I am so grateful.”

The show was absolutely worth five stars and felt like a real privilege to attend.

I felt nostalgic for the experience even though it was happening in front of me, I knew it be a memory that I would look back at for years.

It made me realise I would remember it as being young and alive with my friends, watching a star being born. No tout can put a price on that.
