A THUG ambushed a man on the way to his work amid claims that he was a 'grass'.

Stuart McNey, 27, and two other men preyed upon Thomas Tierney in Glasgow's Easterhouse on October 20, 2019.

The trio threw glass bottles of Budweiser at Mr Tierney who was in a family "dispute" with one of the other men.

McNey went on to punch Mr Tierney - who later required hospital treatment - on the body.

McNey pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Tierney to his severe injury.

The court heard McNey, of Rutherglen, had been drinking with two of his fellow attackers.

The trio came across Mr Tierney around 9am who had left his home to go to work.

Prosecutor Ryan Watson said: "One of the men shouted at Mr Tierney that he was a grass.

"All three men chased Mr Tierney down a lane and then threw glass bottles of Budweiser at him."

Mr Tierney found a 'stick' on the ground and used it to create distance between himself and the trio.

Mr Watson said: "At this point, McNey threw punches at the victim which made contact with his body."

The trio continued trying to get at Mr Tierney who then sprayed one of the other men on the face with an anti-theft spray.

However, the men continued to throw bottles at Mr Tierney which struck him on the shoulder and calf.

Mr Watson added: "All three men continued to shout towards him that he was a grass and a f***ing grass."

Mr Tierney attended hospital the next day and was treated with stitches to a wound on the back of his calf.

He also suffered superficial injuries to another part of his calf as well as his arm.

The court was told that a warrant is outstanding for the attacker whose family is involved in the feud with Mr Tierney and his relatives.

Raymond McIlwham, defending, said: "He advises that parties began fighting and separated without Mr McNey completely understanding what was going on.

"He knew the other man so he became involved."

The lawyer also stated that his client no longer associates with the other man.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Louis Arrol KC who granted McNey bail.

She said: "While I accept that this wasn't your disagreement with Mr Tierney, it was obviously fuelled by drink and you involved yourself in that argument. This is a serious matter."
