A new staging of a David Greig play is set to open at Cumbernauld Theatre.

Titled 'The Events', the play will feature a community choir formed of residents from across North Lanarkshire.

The production is by Cumbernauld Theatre Company in association with Wonder Fools and will open on September 28.

It follows a priest named Claire who survives a mass shooting and embarks on a quest to answer the question: "Why?"

The play explores the complexities of forgiveness, resilience, and the power of community in the face of tragedy.

The Events won the Carol Tamber Best of Edinburgh Award in 2013.

Michael Duke, executive producer of The Events, said: "This is an unbelievable play.

"So gripping and moving, and so relevant to the times we're living in.

"It's going to start a lot of conversations and debates for sure – it has struck a chord with audiences wherever it has been produced across the world."

Jack Nurse, director and co-founder of Wonder Fools, brings the production to life with the help of professional talent Claire Lamont, Sam Stopford, and the community choir.

Jack said: "I could not be more thrilled to be directing The Events by David Greig.

"It is a modern Scottish classic and feels like it was written for today.

"It's been a particular pleasure to start a new choir from scratch in North Lanarkshire who we have been collaborating with since June.

"We have an outstanding professional cast in Claire Lamont and Sam Stopford who are bringing the play to life with extraordinary vitality and skill.

"I can't wait for audiences to see their work."

The Events will run at the Lanternhouse Main Auditorium from September 28 to October 5.
