A PROVOCATIVE art installation has been performed in Glasgow city centre in a effort to raise awareness of speciesism in relation to the dairy industry.

The Specisesism: Milked Women event, from Speciesism in collaboration with We The Free, featured woman being 'milked' standing outside the Gallery of Modern Art while holding signs that read "Milk is not human(e)".

They were also covered with blood which represented how cows are "impregnated repeatedly" to ensure their milk supply continues, had chains around their ankles and had cattle tags in their ears.

The display captured the attention of many passers by who were making their way along Queen Street.

SPECIESISM.WTF was founded in 2023 by artist, filmmaker and animal rights activist Stephanie Lane and aims to "ignite a collective consciousness that recognises the inherent worth of and gives equal considerations to nonhuman beings".

Starting at 1pm this afternoon (September 21), the art installation saw the women spoken about as if they were being bred to produce milk in order to "encourage people to think about how we exploit non human animals because of our ingrained speciesism".

A woman read : "The young girls are fed a good quality organic diet to grow them into fine young milk producers with exceptional quality milk.

"They are free to roam on lovely green pastures should the British weather permit.

"We guarantee them a place in our human milk factory as soon as they reach reproductive age.

"The sperm used is from top quality males and our female herd is selected carefully with the intention of producing a higher yield to improve profitability.

"All our women are fed regularly the appropriate diet to reduce flatulence and CO2 emissions."

She continued: "We keep pregnancy to about 12 per woman and our experienced doctors check for lameness at the earliest stage

"When milk production slows, the women are sold to other industries to be used for whatever is profitable.

"As they are not members of society it is acceptable that their lives are cut short but you can be assured that they had comfortable lives."

Speciesism is the idea that being human is a good enough reason for humans to have greater moral rights than animals.
