Glasgow would lose one of its eight constituency MSPs at the next election under boundary changes being proposed.

The Boundary Commission has produced recommendations that change many of the names of the city’s Holyrood constituencies and see the city go from eight to seven seats and retain the seven regional list MSPs.

In Glasgow, it would see some boundaries change and names merge and there would be 14 MSPs representing people ion the city instead of 15.

There would be Glasgow Anniesland, Glasgow Baillieston and Shettleston, Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok, Glasgow Central, Glasgow Easterhouse and Springburn, Glasgow Kelvin and Maryhill, and Glasgow Southside.

Currently, all eight seats are held by the SNP, won at the 2021 election, (with John Mason Shettleston currently suspended from the party group)

It would mean if they all choose to seek re-election, one would miss out and be unable to stand.

Professor Ailsa Henderson, Chair of Boundaries Scotland said: “We would like to thank everyone who made submissions to the consultation on Revised. This engagement is a vital part of the review process.

“It helps to ensure that electoral representation is fair across Scotland, but also that the boundaries reflect natural communities as best as possible within the rules that govern our work.”
