Geoffrey Hing, a Big Issue seller, said: "All of a sudden the taxi came flying round the corner and mounted the pavement.
"People got hit. It was terrible.
"I've only seen something like that on the telly, not in real life. Not in all my time working in Glasgow."
Abbie Paterson, from Garthamlock, told the Glasgow Times the scene was "chaos" and she also heard multiple people were hit by a vehicle.
She said: "It is awful, just chaos.
"We're on our way to Silverburn and heard a taxi hit some people.
"The tents went up really quickly."
Ally Wilson, from Dennistoun, added: "There were dozens of emergency vehicles.
"It was eerie, I crossed the road and looked up Renfield Street and it was just blue lights.
"I hope everyone is okay, it looked bad."
It is understood an ambulance has now left the scene with a police escort.
Road users are being advised to avoid the area and delays should be expected.
Drivers should follow police direction.
