A date has been set for by-elections in Glasgow after three Labour councillors stepped down from their roles.

Voters will go to the polls in the Drumchapel/Anniesland, North East, and Maryhill wards on Thursday, November 21.

Patricia Ferguson (Drumchapel/Anniesland) and Maureen Burke (North East) were elected to represent Glasgow West and Glasgow North East at Westminster in July and resigned from the council last month.

The pair had “relinquished their city council salaries immediately after their election” but had continued carrying out their duties until early September, the city’s Labour group said at the time.

Keiran O’Neill, who represented Maryhill, then announced his intention to quit with “immediate effect” later in September.

He said the decision was due to “changes in my personal and professional life”, and has since said he will be working for the GMB union in London.

At the last election in 2022, Mr O’Neill picked up the most first preference votes (1,523) in Maryhill and was elected alongside two SNP representatives, Cllr Franny Scally and Cllr Abdul Bostani, in the three-councillor ward.

In Drumchapel/Anniesland, two Labour (Ms Ferguson and Cllr Paul Carey) and two SNP councillors (Anne McTaggart and Fyeza Ikhlaq) were elected in 2022 while in the North East ward, two Labour (Ms Burke and Cllr Sharon Greer) and one SNP councillor (Ruairi Kelly) were voted in.
