A homelessness charity is celebrating several recycling milestones during Recycle Week (October 14 to 20) - including having recycled two and a half Glasgow city buses' worth of metal during the past two years.

Emmaus Glasgow, which provides a community home for up to 27 people in Hamiltonhill, says that it has also recycled paper equivalent to the weight of 2,867 copies of the Glasgow Evening Times over the period.

Its recycling success has been achieved through partnerships with AW Jenkinson Woodwaste Ltd and Highlander International Recycling, as well as through the people who donate goods and buy from its charity shops, which are located on Ellesmere Street in Hamiltonhill and Dumbarton Road in Partick.

The shops, which sell preloved furniture and fashion, have been boosted recently by the addition of a new line of tins of remanufactured ‘Recolour’ paint.

Gus Hamilton, operations and development manager at Emmaus Glasgow, said: "We are proud to have achieved these recycling milestones which will help the city of Glasgow to become cleaner and greener while helping Emmaus raise money to help people build back from homelessness.

"At Emmaus Glasgow, people supported by the charity can help collect unwanted goods, carry out property clearances, or support in the charity shops.

"By providing a tailored package of long-term support, work opportunities, and training, people can gain skills and the experience to get back on their feet again."

Donations of smaller items are welcome to be made in store, or a collection of larger items from home can be arranged via https://emmaus.org.uk/glasgow/donate-goods/book-a-collection/
