A Cambuslang charity that organises free community activities has received a £1,000 donation from a homebuilder.

Friends of Cambuslang Park, which is dedicated to improving well-being through free activities, received the donation from Persimmon West Scotland.

The charity, which champions the 27-acre green space in South Lanarkshire, provides a wide range of activities designed to unite and uplift the community.

In 2023 alone, more than 3,000 people took part in events such as weekly outdoor play sessions for children, friendly football for adults, and Family Fun Day.

The funds from Persimmon West Scotland will go towards supporting the charity's Connected Community programme which offers year-round events such as Forest School Sessions, Silent Disco Guided Walks, and Annual Cleanup and Bulb Planting Days.

These activities promote physical activity, well-being, and social connections, especially in neighbouring areas that face socio-economic challenges.

Fiona Murray, member of Friends of Cambuslang Park, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon West Scotland for this generous donation.

"These funds will allow us to expand our Connected Community programme, bringing even more people together to enjoy and care for Cambuslang Park.

"The support will make a real difference, especially in helping us reach those in the community who need it most."

Clare Haughey, MSP for Rutherglen, said the charity is a great organisation that "do so much locally, and they continue to make such a difference to the local community."

Chris Logan, managing director of Persimmon West Scotland, said: "As we build new homes close to Cambuslang Park, we’re keen to support the local community by investing in initiatives that improve residents' quality of life.

"The Friends of Cambuslang Park are doing fantastic work, and we’re delighted to help them continue to make a positive impact on the area."

Norman Rae, the local councillor, said: “Friends of Cambuslang Park make a great contribution to the local community in Cambuslang.

“I am delighted that they have received this donation from Persimmon to support their work, it is well deserved.”
