Glasgow is set to welcome yet another major film production next month.
Production crews will take over the city centre to shoot scenes for the much-anticipated reboot of the action-packed sci-fi film 'The Running Man', which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role.
Based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name, 'The Running Man' (1987) centres on Ben Richards, a falsely convicted policeman in dystopian America who gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts must battle killers for their freedom.
The movie, which was a moderate box office success in the United States, is now considered something of a cult classic.
'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'Twisters' star Glen Powell will lead the cast of the reboot, taking on the role played by Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie, with 'Mission: Impossible 8' actress Katy O'Brian signing on to star opposite Powell.
Reports surfaced last week that British actor Daniel Ezra, best known for his role in TV show All American, has also joined the cast.
Edgar Wright, the English filmmaker behind 'Hot Fuzz', 'Baby Driver' and 'Shaun of the Dead', is attached to direct, with Wright's 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' collaborator Michael Bacall writing the script.
In December last year, Wright explained that his film would not necessarily be a remake of the movie, but a more faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
Meanwhile, rising Hollywood star Powell described the remake as a "massive movie" in an interview with IndieWire back in July.
He said: "I’m going to be shooting 'The Running Man' in the fall […] The world that Edgar’s developed on this thing is just outrageous. It’s so good. And really, we’re just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and it’s going to be a great character.
"I’m so fired up about it. I’m such an Edgar Wright man. And so, the fact that I get to work with him right now is just so damn cool."
The Paramount Pictures production will film on a number of city centre streets, including Hope Street, Renfrew Street and St Vincent Street.
