Almost £21,000 of additional funding is needed to cover the cost of festive lighting in Springburn and Dennistoun this Christmas.

Each area partnership, including Springburn/Robroyston and Dennistoun, has been awarded £3600 of central funding to meet the costs of putting on display and maintaining festive lighting usually at a single location.

But the partnerships also have the option to fund additional festive lighting locations.

Following discussions with Glasgow City Council, it has been proposed that the Springburn Shopping Centre Tree be left in the same location and for the Wallacewell Road tree to remain at the existing location this year as well.

Permission can be sought at the proposed new location Ryehill Road and Quarrywood Avenue, for 2025 onward.

It has also been suggested that the tree on Robroyston Road/Standburn Road Roundabout be relocated to the grass verge next to St Joseph’s nursing home.

If these recommendations are agreed then the area partnership will be required to find £8110 additional funding.

Meanwhile, in Dennistoun additional funding of £12,801 will be required to display a Christmas tree and Banner at Alexandra Park, a Christmas tree at Royston Road and Sighthill with a switch-on event at Sighthill expected to cost £1450.

Proposals will be brought before the respective partnerships next week and a decision made on whether or not to agree to the extra funding.
