North Lanarkshire Council has approved a planning application to build a new warehouse in Bellshill Industrial Estate.

Knight Properties Group applied for planning permission for the warehouse and yard to be built on a site of almost 20,000 square metres in area to the north of Belgowan Street within the industrial estate, close to The Oval housing estate.

This application, proposing a single building is a redesign of the layout proposed in an earlier planning application which featured two buildings.

That application was the subject of a successful appeal to the Scottish Government and means that the applicant still has the option to further develop this site.

The warehouse would feature an access road, 38 parking spaces for cars including two disabled bays and three electric vehicle charging points and 24 parking spaces.

The yard, located to the northern part of the site will provide parking for 15 HGVs and ten loading docks, which will be shrouded to prevent weather ingress and also isolate noise.

A total of 15 objections were received from nearby addresses, while MP Frank McNally and MSPs Mark Griffin and Stephanie Callaghan also spoke out against the proposals.

Despite the objectors raising a total of 22 issues, none of these were deemed as sufficient grounds to refuse the application, although a range of measures such as the prohibition of general industry and overnight operations have been incorporated into the conditions.

The recommendation made to the council’s planning committee was to grant the application subject to the conditions listed in the report, and this was agreed unanimously.
