A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a man in Hamilton.
William Lewis made no plea at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.
The 56-year-old is also accused of attempted murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
It comes after we reported that William Copeland, 36, and a 59-year-old man were found with serious injuries within the Burnbank Centre area shortly before 4pm on Monday.
Mr Copeland died at the scene and the other man was rushed to hospital. His condition is unknown.
Lewis was remanded in custody and will appear in the dock again within the next eight days.
Police cordoned off the area until around midday on Tuesday to carry out investigations. Forensic officers were pictured at the scene.
Tributes have been paid to Mr Copeland.
Councillor Maureen Chalmers said: "Thoughts with the Copeland family. Good to see restrictions lifted around the centre."
Another added: "RIP William, will never be forgotten."
Someone else wrote: "May you rest in eternal peace. Thinking of your dad, your sisters and the rest of your family."
