Residents have expressed outrage after a load of rubble was dumped and left in a dangerous position blocking a road.
The shocking case of fly-tipping took place yesterday on Springhill Road between the Taylor Wimpey Duncarnock estate and the turn-off for Glanderston Road.
Those caught fly-tipping can be fined up to £10,000 and the offence is also punishable by up to six months in prison.
Iain Liddell, from Barrhead, said: “It's an absolute disgrace. Someone must recognise this as being from their garden or property.
“I don't think it's been someone outwith the Barrhead area who has come into Barrhead and randomly dumped it there.
“I know a lot of the fly-tipping up the back roads is done at night, but my understanding is this was done during the day.
“I know it may not be possible, but I would like to see a regular patrol from East Renfrewshire Council around the backroads.
“You do see them sometimes but not regularly enough.”
Another resident speaking about the incident online said they just missed the rubble as they drove home last night.
“I didn’t realise how much it came out across the road as it was dark and I had to drive into the pothole to get past it," they explained.
“Big nails sticking out of it too. Disgrace.”
East Renfrewshire Council has been contacted for comment.
