A Glasgow-based financial services firm has raised more than £12,000 for a children's charity by spending the night sleeping outside.

The Scottish Friendly team managed to raise £12,740 for Action for Children by completing the Boycott Your Bed challenge.

The team spent the night at Blythswood Square. They found a place to set up and sleep for the night with only a mat and sleeping bag.

The Scottish Friendly team, the largest in the Scotland leg of the UK event, included Adam Stewart, Aidian McCardle, Andrew Harrison, Annemarie Gavin, Christine Manson, Jill Mackay, Kate McLean, Kathryn Reid, Monica Taggart, Nicola Jackson, Ricky MacIntyre, Ryan Watson, Sharon Boyd, and Steven Thomson.

They were part of the popular fundraiser which has raised over £13.5 million since its inception over 25 years ago.

The team met at the Renfield Centre in Glasgow to listen to speakers from Action for Children and young people who have benefited from the charity who explained the important work the charity does.

The team raised more than £6,300 which was matched by Scottish Friendly, raising a total of £12,740 for the charity.

Jill Mackay, head of marketing at Scottish Friendly, said: "I was proud to join my fantastic Scottish Friendly colleagues to take part in the Boycott Your Bed challenge for our charity partner, Action for Children.

"We slept outside with only a sleeping mat and bag and in doing so, we have helped raise vital funding to support vulnerable children and young people.

"As a mum of two, the challenge made me reflect on the heartbreaking reality that some children in the UK face every night.

"We hope that the funds raised will aid Action for Children in continuing the incredible work they do to support vulnerable young people across Scotland."

Euan Meston, corporate partnership executive at Action for Children, said: "We are extremely grateful to the support from Scottish Friendly and the colleagues who undertook this challenge, raising a significant amount of funding.

"We will continue to be there for children, young people and families and this support and this donation will aid Action for Children in doing this.

"The support from Scottish Friendly colleagues is very much appreciated and will allow us to continue to support those that need it through these difficult times."
