People in East Dunbartonshire are invited to attend Remembrance services this weekend.

Provost Gillian Renwick and councillors will gather at 11 war memorials on November 10 to pay their respects and remember the fallen.

Local churches and community councils have organised events in Auchinairn, Baldernock, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Milngavie, Milton of Campsie, Torrance, Twechar, and Woodilee.

Provost Renwick said: "Please find out what is happening in your area and go along to be a part of these very special and important events if you can.

"Encourage younger generations to attend so that we keep this tradition going and that we never forget.

"My thanks to the groups who have organised these services throughout East Dunbartonshire, giving everyone the chance to be part of the day."

The council has also organised a service at the Bearsden Cross war memorial, starting at approximately 10.40am.

It will be led by the Reverend David Guest, the rector of All Saints Church in Bearsden.

The service will be attended by the Deputy Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, Pat Steel, Provost Renwick, armed forces personnel, and representatives from the council, Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, community councils, churches, schools, the Boys' Brigade, the Girls' Brigade, Girl Guides, Scouts, and other local groups.

"We must never forget the past and we must also remember our veterans and those who continue to serve, as well as their families.

"Sunday is such an important day and I hope as many people as possible come out across East Dunbartonshire to pay their respects and to remember the many sacrifices of our armed forces, past and present."

In support of PoppyScotland, some of the council's main public buildings will be lit red in the days leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

The community hubs in Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, and Kirkintilloch, along with Milngavie Town Hall, will be illuminated from November 4 to 11.
