PARENTS and carers of children who are due to start school in August 2025 are being encouraged to register online this week.
The online registration in Glasgow schools – which runs until Friday (November 8) - is for children who turn five years of age between March 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
Around 6000 children have been registered annually online since the process began seven years ago.
Councillor Christina Cannon, Glasgow’s education convener, is encouraging families to make sure they have all the correct details to make sure this milestone event in their child’s life goes smoothly.
She said: “You just need to ask any parent or carer what a major step in their child’s development is and the majority will answer that it is the beginning of their school journey.
“This is the next step in a child’s development, and we want to make this as simple as possible for everyone.
“Enrolment itself has never been easier and can be done from the comfort of your home.”

Councillor Cannon added: “Our city prides itself in having local schools for local children, but our families also have the right to apply for a placing request to any school in the city.
“If you are not familiar with your catchment area, our website has all the details. However, families should enrol at their catchment school in the first instance before applying for a placing request.”

Parents and carers will be notified by February 2025 to confirm their child’s place.
Schools will be in touch with families to attend open days and school visits before the end of term.
Updated information on registration, deferred entries, Gaelic Medium Education (GME), placing requests and the P1 online registration form link can be found on the council website.
