A person has died after being hit by a train on a Glasgow railway line.

British Transport Police officers were called to the tracks near Blairhill station in Coatbridge at around 8.10am on Tuesday, November 12.

The force say they were alerted to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Emergency service crews, including police and medics, rushed to the area.

However, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. 

A report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.

Earlier, National Rail revealed a person had been struck by a train between Airdrie in North Lanarkshire and Carntyne in Glasgow's East End.

To allow emergency services to carry out their work, all lines between these stations are currently closed.

Due to the incident, the rail firm has said buses will replace trains between Shettleston and Bathgate.

Meanwhile, trains running between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Airdrie may be cancelled or revised until around 12pm as well.

A National Rail spokesperson said: "A person has been hit by a train between Airdrie and Carntyne.

"Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.

"As a result, buses will replace trains between Shettleston and Bathgate.

"Trains running between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Airdrie may be cancelled or revised until approximately 12pm.

"To assist you with your journey, you can use your ticket to travel on ScotRail services via any reasonable route at no extra cost.

"ScotRail has resourced replacement buses to run between Shettleston and Bathgate to help with your journey.

"These will be operated by ARays, Blue Bus, City Circle, HH Coaches and Ratho.

"If you have had to drive to another station your ticket will be valid to collect your car on your return journey. Speak to a member of staff to validate your ticket.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Blairhill railway station at around 8.10am today (November 12) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”

A spokesperson for ScotRail said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Airdrie and Carntyne.

"We’re working closely with them during this time and will keep you updated. Services running through this area are subject to delay, cancellation or revision."

 

 

A Network Rail spokesperson added: "We’re assisting the emergency services who are dealing with an incident between Coatbridge Sunnyside and Easterhouse.

"ScotRail services aren’t able to run in either direction for now. We’ll share more info as soon as we can."

 

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “ We received a call at 8.13am to attend an incident at Blairhill Station, Coatbridge.

"An ambulance, a critical care paramedic and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.”
