For Hashtag United’s dedicated volunteer Tash Luff, matchdays are all about creating a welcoming atmosphere for fans, old and new.
Working at the club’s gate, she’s often the first face supporters see in a role she cherishes.
“It’s all about making sure people have a good first interaction at the club,” she said. “It’s so nice to provide that and make people feel welcome.”
Founded in 2016 by YouTube creator Spencer Owen, Hashtag United have become one of non-league football’s most talked-about clubs, with a unique online presence that reaches fans around the world.
Known for blending grassroots passion with a global digital following, Hashtag’s community spirit is felt not only through their social media but also through the supporters and volunteers.
For Tash, her connection with Hashtag United runs deeper than a matchday routine, it’s a family affair. Her husband Rich initially joined as a fan, but following Hashtag quickly turned into a lifestyle for them both.
Tash joked: “I would join him along to games kind of regretting it thinking here we go again, another hobby.”

Now, Rich serves as the club’s kit man, and the couple’s two young daughters eagerly pitch in, thrilled to be part of the Hashtag family.
“Being a volunteer gives us opportunities to connect with the players,” Tash said. “My kids love the players and the interactions they have with them.”
It is now easier than ever to get involved and volunteer at your local non-league club thanks to Pitching In's Volunteer Hub, which allows clubs to advertise roles online.
Tash’s commitment goes beyond just home games, she travels to away matches too, enjoying the chance to cheer for the team from the stands.
This commitment is part of what makes Hashtag United special, with fans and volunteers willing to go the distance to support their club. For Tash, the sense of community that Hashtag United brings is invaluable.
Like so many other volunteers across non-league football, Tash’s passion and hard work help Hashtag United thrive, ensuring that every match feels more like a gathering of friends than just a game.
For her, being a volunteer is about creating connections, building memories, and being an essential a part of the Hashtag United journey.
“It’s the fan support, they’re like no other I’ve experienced,” Tash explained.
“Hashtag brings this sense of community to our lives, both in and out of football.”
