A noughties boy band have re-wrote their hit song as part of a special performance for Children in Need with reference to East Kilbride.

Award-winning group, Blue, performed a re-write of a 2001 song to spur on Paddy McGuinness who is taking part in a five-day ultra-endurance challenge.

McGuinness is cycling 300 miles from Wrexham in Wales to the finish line in Glasgow.

The former host of Top Gear and Take Me Out is on day four of the challenge where he is expected to travel from Ecclefechan to Strathaven.

The performance which was broadcast on BBC Radio 2 began with the band congratulating McGuinness's efforts so far with a reference to his Take Me Out catchphrase 'no likey, no lighty'.

They said: "Paddy, we are proud of you, son. This is Blue. No bikey, no ridey."

Anthony kicked off their performance with their anthem which swapped out their original lyrics for cycle-themed alternatives.

They sang: "Think of the money that you're raising. Two wheels on a bike that you're pedalling. All ride, all ride.

"Your legs and your calves, they all ache. You're doing it for kids across the UK. All ride."

Coming into the second verse, Anthony found the perfect word to rhyme with ride in the form of a town near Glasgow.

He sang: "You can barely stand, your back's against the wall. You've cycled hard and you've given it your all.

"You're doing great, now I feel you've hit your stride.

"There's quite big hills on the way to East Kilbride. "

Residents of the town were quick to share their excitement after hearing their hometown broadcast on national radio.

One resident commented: "Brilliant, I'm in East Kilbride, get yersel here Paddy."

Another said: "I work in East Kilbride, hoping to see you on Friday."

A third said: "Omg why, I'm working Friday and you'll be where I live."

Paddy will be stopping in Strathaven tonight and is due to cycle through East Kilbride in the early hours of Friday, November 15 in his final stretch to Glasgow.
