A ZERO emissions bus link service has seen a surge in passenger numbers. 

New figures released by ScotRail show that passenger journeys on the Glasgow station bus link has reached near pre-pandemic levels. 

More than 91,000 journeys were made on the new zero emission buses in their first year of operation – an increase of almost 50% compared to the previous year when 62,151 journeys were made.

The service, which is operated by First Glasgow on behalf of ScotRail, began running with electric buses on October 1, 2023 and connects Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street and Buchanan Bus Station. 

The buses operate up to every 12 minutes and are free of charge to rail ticket and concession card holders. 

David Lister, ScotRail safety and sustainability director, said: "It’s fantastic to see more and more people using the Glasgow station bus link service.

"These fully accessible, zero emission buses deliver greener and more sustainable transport options and provide a key link for customers making cross-city journeys."

Graeme Macfarlan, First Bus Scotland commercial director, added: "We’re delighted to see the continuing passenger growth of the Glasgow station bus link and to see so many people being able to benefit from our zero emission buses operating the service.

"We are continuing to increase the number of zero emission buses operating in the city and now have 200 operating on bus routes across Glasgow every single day."
