A Caledonia Gladiators player recently celebrated his graduation from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).
Prince Onwas, 31, has been juggling a master's degree and his professional career for two years.
Originally from Texas, the player was given the chance to study through a programme by the Caledonia Gladiators, which allows players to pursue studies while playing basketball.
Since joining the franchise in 2022, he has been a key player for the club in the Super League Basketball Championships and the FIBA Europe Cup.
Alongside his academic and sporting commitments, Prince and his partner, Zoe, welcomed their first child, Amira, in July.
The family were present to cheer him on at his graduation ceremony held at Paisley Abbey.
Prince, whose career has taken him to Australia, the NBA G-League, Germany, and Spain, said: "To say that it’s an amazing feeling to be graduating is an understatement.
"After two years of hard work on and off the court, balancing basketball, university studies and now fatherhood has been a struggle, but it’s all been worth it and what a relief to walk across that stage."
Despite his packed schedule, he has maintained his form on the court, playing a part in Caledonia Gladiators' 2023 British Basketball League Trophy win, their first in 20 years.
Tony McDaid, chief executive officer of Caledonia Gladiators, said: "What a fantastic achievement for Prince – to say that he has graduated with a Masters of Business Administration that he has completed while playing professional basketball across the UK and Europe is quite the feat."
Professor James Miller, principal and vice-chancellor of UWS, said: "Congratulations to Prince for gaining his Masters degree while also contributing significantly to his basketball team at the Caledonia Gladiators – he has been an inspiration to many of our students and the wider UWS community and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Caledonia Gladiators.”
