A vulnerable man who has been living with a toilet which leaks sewage onto his floor for three months says he is 'disappointed' by the way he has been treated.
Kenneth Jardine, originally from Drumchapel, has mental health and medical conditions and was previously sectioned before finding accommodation in Stoneyflatt Avenue in Dumbarton.
The 36-year-old first reported the issue to Caledonia Housing Association on August 6 after he continued to pick up on a bad smell.
Since then he has reported the issue numerous times and insists he is getting nowhere.
He said: "I’ve reported it to them about six times and it's never been fixed. They don’t know where the water is coming from.
"I’ve taken photos of what the floor has looked like and there’s a lot of water coming out. It ruined the floor.
"It's stinking out the whole flat. I have the windows open all the time and I have plug-in air fresheners in the bathroom and the living room.
"I’m just disappointed that the housing association can treat their tenants like this and put them through this when they are already going through the hardest times of their lives."
A plumber first came to the maisonette soon after he reported the issue in August, but Kenneth says they couldn't figure out where the water came from.
He said the next emergency plumber advised him not to use the facilities and perhaps ‘try a neighbour’.
Following this, another was sent which Kenneth says didn’t help because the tradesmen insisted there was 'nothing that could be done' and he needed a new part.
Following this he was told the plumber was off sick.
Since then his floor has been replaced but he is now waiting on a date for the next repairman to come out to now replace the toilet.
Kenneth added: "I’ve had windows open to stop breathing it in because I am asthmatic and I’ve had to turn the heating up.
"My mental health has been affected by the stress of this.
"The stress sets off my mental health, my doctor says I shouldn't have extra pressure on me."
A spokesperson for Caledonia Housing Association said: “Caledonia is committed to providing quality services that meet the individual needs of all our tenants. Since this issue was first reported to us, plumbers have attended on a number of occasions.
"Earlier this week the issue was escalated and contractors have been instructed to replace the toilet completely as a matter of urgency. We apologise to our tenant for the inconvenience and distress this has caused and hope that the matter will shortly be resolved.”
