Celtic defender Alistair Johnston has been trying to make light of Cameron Carter-Vickers’ calamitous error in the Champions League last night which saw the centre-back put the ball into his own net.
In a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Club Brugge at Celtic Park, the Hoops went behind after 26 minutes when the US international played a no-look pass back to goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, ending in the ball trickling into the back of his own goal.
Daizen Maeda scored a screamer on the hour mark to rescue a vital point for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

When asked about Carter-Vickers’ first-half blunder, Johnston made light of the situation. “When you want to play out from the back under high pressure, sometimes things are going to get a little lost in translation,” he told the BBC after the game.
“He [Carter-Vickers] thought Kasper was one place, he wasn’t. It ended up being a great finish!
“I think he was fine for the rest of the match. He was one of those guys you don’t really have to worry about with that kind of stuff.”
Last night’s draw leaves Celtic in 20th place in the Champions League table after five games with confidence remaining high that they can reach the knockout stages.
Those finishing 9th to 24th in the table will enter a two-legged knockout play-off for a spot in the last 16.
Next up for the Hoops in Europe is a trip to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb on December 10.
