A groundbreaking report has revealed the immense impact of a mentoring service in vulnerable families across Glasgow.
The Wise Group's Relational Mentoring service has generated a £50 million social return on investment (SROI) with £5 million funding from the Scottish Government's Fuel Insecurity Fund.
Since its launch in July 2023, the service has supported more than 3000 households across Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, and the Scottish Borders.
The initiative has particularly supported 1473 households with children, enabling these families to stabilise their income and improve their quality of life.
Sean Duffy, chief executive of the Wise Group, said: "While benefits provide short-term relief, they don’t create lasting change.
"Our Relational Mentoring approach breaks down barriers, allowing families to make permanent improvements to their lives.
"We’ve seen the impact this has on families with children, giving them the stability they need to thrive.
"It’s crucial that the Scottish Government continues to prioritise smart investments like these, particularly during tough budget decisions."
The service has delivered positive outcomes for each participating household, averaging nine distinct improvements, including increased access to services, energy assistance, and income boosts for those earning under £20,000 per year.
The initiative has significantly helped economically inactive individuals, often parents, move towards greater independence.
