A MAN poured beer over a police officer after being told he couldn’t drink it as he had been arrested.
Gerard Smith, 49, of Carntyne, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court recently after pleading guilty to assaulting constable David Bissett.
The court heard that cops had gone to a property on Aberfoyle Street in the East End at 8.10pm on July 25 to trace Smith for an apprehension warrant.
Another person answered the door and said Smith was inside.
He was told he was under arrest and then opened a can of Budweiser but was told he was not allowed to drink it as he had been arrested.
Police put a handcuff on Smith’s right wrist and he swung the can and hit Mr Bisset’s right bicep.
As cops tried to put on the other handcuff, Smith continued trying to prevent it from happening.

He then poured the Budweiser can over Mr Bisset.
Officers successfully put the second handcuff on and Smith was cautioned and charged, to which he made no reply.
Smith’s lawyer told the court that his client was “very remorseful”.
The defence solicitor said: “He was on remand for another case for 27 days. A lot of his problems stem from excessive alcohol consumption.
“He would not otherwise act that way if he was not drinking. He is very, very remorseful as he repeatedly apologised.
“It was not premeditated, not planned, however, alcohol affects him. There is a lack of real criminal record and he has never been subject to supervision.”
Sheriff Simone Sweeney placed Smith on a community payback order with social work supervision for 12 months and a conduct requirement to attend alcohol services during that time.
This was a direct alternative to custody.
