A Glasgow MP has condemned a decision to close a Glasgow bank.
We previously reported that the Bank of Scotland is closing its branch on Albert Drive in the city's Pollokshields on July 27, 2023.
It comes as a number of different banks are closing certain branches as more customers are using online banking.
Alison Thewliss, MP for Glasgow Central, has spoken out against the move, arguing that the bank is still frequently used by the local community.
She said: “It is disappointing that Bank of Scotland has taken the decision to close their local branch on Albert Drive, following the pattern of many other banks in centralising their branches in the city centre.
“The Albert Drive branch is an anchor on this busy street, used by residents, businesses and local organisations.
"Albert Drive has been affected by two significant fires in recent years, so the loss of this branch is particularly disappointing.
“I ask that Bank of Scotland reconsider the decision to close this branch to ensure that my Pollokshields constituents continue to have access to the full range of banking services in their own neighbourhood.”
Customers are advised that they can use the nearest branch on Victoria Road.
