The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to “continue her recovery from surgery” following a “major” abdominal procedure just under two weeks ago, Kensington Palace has said.

The surgery, which was planned, was carried out at The London Clinic – this is the same private hospital where the King also had planned treatment for an enlarged prostate on January 16.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”

The 42-year-old future Queen is not expected to return to official duties alongside Prince William until after Easter.

The Prince of Wales has temporarily stepped back from his royal role to care for her and their three young children.

A spokesperson recently said the princess wanted to share news of her surgery to explain to those affected by the postponement of her engagements.

“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” they added.

“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”

Meanwhile, Charles has spent his third night in hospital to recover – he has been visited by his wife, Queen Camilla, on Sunday (January 28), the third and fourth times she has been to see him at the private hospital since they arrived on Friday (January 26).

A spokesman previously added: “His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

Before receiving his treatment at The London Clinic, he took time to visit his daughter-in-law Kate, who at the time was on the 11th day of her hospital stay.
