Are you about to book some flights? Whether you’re booking a relaxing trip or cramming in lots of sightseeing, holidays can be expensive.
To help your money go further next time you organise a holiday, a travel expert has shared four hacks that could help you save money on your flights.
Matthew Corrigan, CEO at Trtl Travel, has advised holidaymakers to use the hacks which include which flights to book, being flexible with your dates and more.
4 hacks to help you cut the cost of your flights
Here are four ways you could save money when booking flights. You can read more about saving money for a holiday and more in Trtl Travel’s online guide.
Book night time flights
Matthew said “flights are usually cheaper when you fly during the night”, whether you’re flying for a few hours or going on a long-haul flight.
He added: “These off-peak hours are less popular with travellers, meaning the prices are generally cheaper — sometimes by hundreds of pounds — when you opt for a red-eye flight.”
Choose your dates wisely
If you can be flexible with your dates, you might find yourself saving money on flights.
Matthew advises holidaymakers to “avoid peak travel seasons and holidays when prices are typically higher.”

He added: “Instead, consider travelling during shoulder seasons — the periods between peak and off-peak — or weekdays, as airlines tend to offer more competitive fares during these periods.”
Book flights and accommodation separately
Matthew said: “While package deals can be convenient, they may not always offer the best value for your money.
“By booking your flights and accommodation separately, you have the freedom to compare prices and find the most affordable options for each.

Clear cookies on your device
Matthew explains: “When searching for flights online, airlines and travel websites often use cookies to track your browsing history. This can result in prices appearing higher each time you search for the same route.
“To potentially find lower fares, clear your browser cookies or use an incognito or private browsing mode. This way, you'll start each search with a clean slate and may come across better deals.”
