Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice explore Spain in new travel series
Speaking about his connections to Spain, Du Beke told the BBC: “My mum is Spanish. She came over to the UK, when she was in her early 20s. She comes from Galicia in the north of Spain, in rural Spain.
“So, it was hard, Franco’s Spain, it was hard times, and just to get a better life and get a better job she came over to the UK to be an au pair or a nanny for a family and then went from there.”
He added: “My mother is Spanish, my father is Hungarian. So, I'm sort of first-generation UK. I was born in the UK. My parents both came from another country during their 20s.”
When asked about his most memorable moment of the trip, he said: “Well, I have to be honest with you there wasn't a most memorable, it was all extraordinary.
“I enjoyed the whole thing, from Seville to Bilbao, our little dip into Benidorm was a lot of fun too - I enjoyed that enormously.
“We did an aqua aerobics class. I mean, it was so up our street really, being with the Brits there in the sun, in the pool and messing about, that’s us really. It really was a lot of fun.”
When asked about his most memorable moment of the adventure, Pernice said the pair “had a lot of fun”, saying: “Well, obviously that's got to be spending time with Anton everywhere! That was the best part of the trip, even just a simple journey in the car, we had a lot of fun.
“I also think going back to see Anton’s roots to see where his family lived has to be one of the highlights of the show.
“We did a lot of good things...we had a lot of food, and tried lots of new foods, we danced a lot and we explored a lot of nice, beautiful beaches. So the whole thing was memorable generally I can't pick the best moment!”
Viewers can also expect to see Strictly Come Dancing professional and Basque local Gorka Márquez in episode three as the trio explore the place he grew up in.
Marquez said: “It was very nice to have them there and show them around the places I was surrounded by growing up.”
