I tried Stacey Solomon's storage hacks - my transformed home

If you asked me who my celebrity obsessions are, I would sheepishly say Stacey Solomon and the Style Sisters (it’s no longer Harry Styles).

Even at primary school age, organising my Disney fairytale books and doll house brought me an embarrassing amount of joy.

I’ve always been obsessed with organising rooms, shelves, cupboards, you name it - so when I lost all tidying and cleaning motivation during my recent house move, it made my brain feel like it was one giant knot.

But now I’m finally settling into my new home, you can probably guess what I’ve been up to.

I’ve spent the last few weeks taking a deep dive online to find Stacey and the Style Sisters’ most satisfying hacks to organise my kitchen.

I’ve fallen madly in love with my new open dining space but moving into a newly built home meant storage was minimal.

I'd been opening cupboard doors, throwing stuff in and slamming them shut, hoping for the best and muttering “it will do”.

Yet as I began to live in my new space more, things were falling out of cupboards left, right and centre.

Food and household essentials have been getting lost (yes, I did end up buying three packs of Minky’s because they kept disappearing) and bottles of cleaning products have been flooding the place after finding them knocked over, probably a day too late.

Alas, my kitchen cupboards have now been transformed thanks to the Sort Your Life Out star and Gemma and Charlotte (who have just launched a budget-friendly homeware collection at Tesco – run, don’t walk).

Here are some of the easy kitchen storage hacks I’ve created inspired by the home organisation and interior legends.

Under the kitchen sink storage

The before and after pictures of the mess under my sink honestly shocked me.

It took me a while to decide what to do with the space as there is quite a lot to work with, so I wanted to make the most of it.

In the end, I went with Stacey’s hack of using acrylic drawers (which are stackable) to put dishwasher and laundry pods in, as well as cleaning cloths and sponges.

I also added a lazy Susan for the cleaning products I tend to use the most – I’d never used one before and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s life-changing.

You can see everything without having to rummage – just spin and grab the bottle you need, whether you’re cleaning the oven or bathroom.

I also applied Command hooks to the cupboard door to hang up my trusty Flash duster and dustpan and brush - now they don’t get dumped in a corner (and end up being unused).

DIY crisp vending machine cupboard

A while ago I saw Stacey do this in her own house from an Instagram tutorial, which she later recreated in a segment on ITV’s Lorraine.

This has worked wonders as my snack cupboard is quite narrow so things easily pile up.

I used small tension rods (from a pack of five) and hoops with clips on (from a pack of 30) bought on Amazon which cost just over £10. Can you believe I've only used two rods? There's space to hang 20 packets of crisps, unbelievable.

Now I can slide baskets underneath to store biscuits (milk chocolate digestives of course) and the odd bar of chocolate (or two) ready for a weekend treat.

Best of all, this took minutes to sort out.

Spice racks on cupboard door

In my kitchen, I have a giant cupboard covering my boiler with a lot of space inside going to waste.

So after weeks of getting fed up with dragging my spice basket out from the back of another cupboard when cooking, I thought, what would Stacey do?

Although I’ve watched Stacey make a spice cupboard by tilting a shelf and using a tension rod, she inspired me to use some small metal racks which I’ve seen her use throughout her home makeover.

I sourced them from Amazon and they took five minutes to put up inside my boiler cupboard, within easy reach of the oven hob. Plus, each rack stores around six or seven spice jars each.

Fridge storage

I’ve watched the Style Sisters and Stacey organise their fridges far too many times than I want to admit, but yet I’m always beaming at my phone screen seeing the finished result.

I’m yet to decide how I want to store food in my fridge in a space-efficient way but I’ve introduced an acrylic tray for my beloved Pepsi cans, and I’m still not over the difference it has made.

Standing them upright in the fridge takes up a lot of space, so I often leave them out and drink them at room temperature.

But with this handy tip, they can be stacked sideways on top of one another and as you take one out, another rolls forward.
